Hosting Engineer (Monitoring)

Team Description & Purpose of Role

Hosting Engineering Release to Operations new products and services. Standardisation of Datacentre Operations to improve efficiency. Technical governance over Customer Designs

Job Responsibilties

• Transitions Hosting products from Service Pipeline to Service Catalogue – Release to Operations
• Develops proof of concept projects in cooperation with Hosting Architecture
• Writes and updates hosting operational documents, processes, and work instructions
• Understands products available in the Hosting Service Portfolio
• Liaises closely with Hosting Architecture to keep up to date on developments, and feed back information gained from Operations
• Liaises closely with Hosting Operations to understand and assist with issues supporting the Hosting Product portfolio
• Leads continual product development activities to meet customer and Operational need.
• Liaises with peers in other platforms to standardize Engineering role within Interoute
• Reports on Hosting Engineering activities
• Participates in regular Hosting Technology meetings to report on activities
• Supports ISO 27001 and equivalent certification requirements where necessary
• Applies ITIL methodology to the role
• Adheres to Interoute security policies and report incidents to the appropriate operations functions
• Improves hosting operational processes and procedures when needed as part of our Continual Process Improvement (CPI)

Experience Required

Solid understanding of standard client/server, networking, and Internet fundamentals and a superior knowledge and demonstrated technical proficiency in System Center Operations Manager with experience in managing medium to large environments. The candidate should be able to troubleshoot all aspects of SCOM effectively and understand the product configuration, flow and logging in detail.
The candidate should understand fully the base OS and SCOM Management Packs and be able to discuss in detail at least one of the following Management Packs: Active Directory, Exchange, IIS or SQL. HP and Netapp including configuration, tuning and customization. In addition, experience in other Microsoft Management technologies, including Active Directory services (AD), System Center Essentials and WSUS is desired.
Secondary expertise in at least one of the following: Windows server Operating Systems, clustering, scripting e.g. VB or Powershell, SQL- both management and querying, WMI and IIS. Knowledge of the following would be advantageous: SCOM Solution Accelerators, SNMP, SCOM Connectors and the SCOM Connector Framework, and the model based architecture in SCOM 2007.
An advantage would be if the candidate has experience with EMC IONIX, our main Network monitoring platform.
