Hosting Systems Engineer

Team Description & Purpose of Role
Based at Interoute’s central operations centres in Sofia, this role is about Hosting Engineering Release to Operations new products and services. This includes Standardisation of Datacentre Operations to improve efficiency. Instrumental for the routine maintenance and in-life changes to complex shared central systems.
Job Responsibilties
The candidate is sufficiently technical in that he/she understands complex and integrated product and service offerings in the dedicated hosting, dedicated server and managed hosting markets.
Transitions Hosting products from Service Pipeline to Service Catalogue – Release to Operations
Develops proof of concept projects in cooperation with Hosting Architecture
Writes and updates hosting operational documents, processes, and work instructions
Understands products available in the Hosting Service Portfolio
Liaises closely with Hosting Engineering Colleagues to keep up to date on developments, and feed back information gained from Operations
Liaises closely with Hosting Operations to understand and assist with issues supporting the Hosting Product portfolio
Leads continual product development activities to meet customer and Operational need.
Liaises with peers in other platforms to standardize Engineering role within Interoute
Provides regular reporting on engineering activity and standard reporting requirements
Participates in regular Hosting Technology meetings to report on activities
Supports ISO 27001 and equivalent certification requirements where necessary
Applies ITIL methodology to the role
Adheres to Interoute security policies and report incidents to the appropriate operations functions
Improves hosting operational processes and procedures when needed as part of our Continual Process Improvement (CPI)
Testing of proposed changes on customer Hosting solutions and subsequent implementation of changes (changes ranging from new servers or services to OS upgrades etc.) in cooperation with Implementation Account Managers and the customer.
Technical point of contact for Service Delivery, Sales Engineering, Project Management and In-Country Datacentre teams for issues related to Hosting service design, implementation, test and delivery of customer solutions.
Prompt identification of issues which may impact delivery timescales or quality.
Pro-active diagnoses and fix of technical issues arising during provision of, and changes to, complex Hosting solutions.
Pro-active escalation, follow-through and liaison with appropriate departments to resolve technical issues which may impact delivery timescales or quality. Creation of contingency plans to minimise such risks.
Production of quality documentation to reflect changes to solutions.
Able to work on a shift basis to provide 24/7 coverage.
Work on assigned tasks and projects are directed by management.
Experience Required
Solid understanding of standard client/server, networking, and Internet fundamentals and a superior knowledge delivering complex solutions within medium to large environments.
In depth knowledge of the following:
VMware best practice design and optimization (ESX 3.5, vSphere, ESXi)
Windows 2003 & 2008.
Good Cisco Switching and routing
LAN / WAN architecture
Security Products (Cisco and Checkpoint)
Hosting hardware, servers, SANs, blades
Scripting knowledge (perl, shell, vbscript, powershell)
SQL Server, Oracle, MS Exchange, AD, replication technologies
UNIX (Redhat, Solaris)
Veritas Netbackup
Netapp Storage Solutions
Microsoft SCOM, SNMP, SCOM Connectors and Connector Framework
3-4+ years of experience in Hosting Operations, Engineering, Administration or similar role
Minimum 3 years experience in an International environment and in a technical engineering environment
