Infrastructure Design Engineer

Job Responsibilities

To deliver infrastructure design documentations for all changes to the Interoute metro and backbone fibre networks pertaining to the region. Audit of network inventory as required.
Work in conjunction with the regional Field Operations team to ensure that all design changes, works documents, new network deployment and customer deployments are executed as per design process.
To work within the regional infrastructure budget (Netex, SRC & Capex) while continuously seeking cost saving and efficiencies across all budget lines.
To assist in managing the process of procurement of infrastructure ensuring compatibility, value for money and adherence to purchasing procedures. This will include the development of business cases justifying incremental expenditure.
To support the development and negotiation of contracts, including SLAs and Operational Procedures.
To ensure a close working relationship with local suppliers and partners during infrastructure purchasing, provisioning and subsequent operations to ensure efficient delivery.
To ensure good quality infrastructure as built design handover to network operations. Provide support to Sales and Sales Engineering for customer prospects. Provide regular and ad-hoc reports as required by central management and functional teams.
Identify and address issues that affect network security, reliability or maintainability
To work with regional Sales management, Finance and Business Development to identify opportunities for additional business value creation through network expansion and/or services acquisition

Experience Required

3 to 5 years’ experience working in the fibre optic field and Layer 2 / 3 Network Area. Strong knowledge of fibre optic testing (OTDR, PMD & Power Meter). Strong knowledge of fibre characteristics and optic interfaces. Prior experiences in deployment of network infrastructure projects, plant protection and relocation projects. Strong project management skills.
