Principal Engineer, Hosting Engineering

• Ensures that the Hosting Engineering function is executed as per its defined requirements
• Make sure Hosting products are supported as efficiently as possible
• To support Hosting and Datacenter Engineers on the day to day activities associated with implementation and Managed Hosting Projects, for both internal and external customers
• Ensures that centrally managed infrastructure is fit for purpose to support the company’s cost optimization goals

• Transitions Hosting products from Service Pipeline to Service Catalogue – Release to Operations
• Develops proof of concept projects in cooperation with Hosting Architecture
• Writes and updates hosting operational documents, processes, and work instructions
• Understands products available in the Hosting Service Portfolio
• Liaises closely with Hosting Architecture to keep up to date on developments, and feed back information gained from Operations
• Liaises closely with Hosting Operations to understand and assist with issues supporting the Hosting Product portfolio
• Liaises with peers in other platforms to standardize Engineering role within Interoute
• Reports on Hosting Engineering activities
• Participates in regular Hosting Technology meetings to report on activities
• Supports ISO 27001 and equivalent certification requirements where necessary
• Applies ITIL methodology to the role
• Adheres to Interoute security policies and report incidents to the appropriate operations functions
• Improves hosting operational processes and procedures when needed as part of our Continual Process Improvement (CPI)

Additionally

• Participates in Geneva datacenter on call rotation as required
• Works overtime on projects if needed
• Assists other hosting operations teams when required

Experience Required:

• Excellent level of knowledge in all Hosting related technologies, including but not limited to :
o UNIX (Redhat, Solaris)
o Windows 2003 & 2008
o Cisco Switching and routing
o LAN / WAN architecture
o Firewalls (Cisco and Checkpoint)
o Virtualization technology (VMware)
o Backup system (Veritas Netbackup)
o Hosting hardware, servers, SANs, blades
o Programming and scripting knowledge essential (perl, shell, vbscript, powershell)
o SQL Server, Oracle, MS Exchange, AD, replication technologies
• Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Access

• 3-4+ years of experience in Hosting Operations or similar role
• Minimum 5 years experience in an International environment and in a technical engineering environment
• Experience in Engineering Hosting Solutions
• Preferred experience with one or more of the following:
o IP installation and commissioning
o Data Center / POP Facility Management
o Service delivery activities

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field of study. Fluent English required, additional European language desired.
